ALAN CUMMING

A graduate of the Royal Scottish Academy of

Music and Drama, Alan Cumming began his

acting career in television and comedy, but

quickly made his big break in theater as Slu-

pianek in

Conquest of the South Pole

at Edin-

burgh’s Traverse Theatre. The production was

reprised at the Royal Court in London’s West

End, and Cumming earned an Olivier Award

nomination for Most Promising Newcomer. He

then began working with such theater compa-

nies as the Royal Shakespeare Company, Na-

tional Theatre Studio, and the Royal National

Theatre, with which he won an Olivier Award

for his portrayal of The Madman in

Accidental

Death of an Anarchist

. Cumming has also por-

trayed Valere in

La Bête

; the title roles of

Romeo

and Juliet

and

Hamlet

, the latter earning him a

TMA Award for Best Actor and a Shakespeare

Globe nomination; and the Master of Ceremo-

nies in

Cabaret

, the vehicle of his Broadway

debut that also earned him Tony, Outer Critics’

Circle, Drama Desk, andTheatre World Awards.

His other Broadway credits have included

and

The Threepenny Opera

, and

he has appeared off-Broadway in

Elle

and

The

Seagull

. In the lead role of

The Bacchae

, Cum-

ming earned the Herald Arcangel Award for his

performance with the National Theatre of Scot-

land at the Edinburgh Festival, remaining with

the production through stops at London’s Lyr-

ic Theatre and New York’s Lincoln Center. He

has also maintained an active career on screen,

making his film debut in Ian Sellar’s

Prague

and

shortly thereafter appearing in such Hollywood

productions as

Goldeneye

and

Romy and Mi-

chele’s High School Reunion

, later adding

X2:

X-Men United

and the

Spy Kids

trilogy to his

credits. He hosts PBS’s

Masterpiece Mystery!

and

stars in CBS’s

Instinct

, having also had recurring

roles on such shows as

The L Word

The Good

Wife

,

The Runaway

Web Therapy

. Tonight

Alan Cumming is making his first return to Ra-

vinia following his 2015 debut.
