BONNIE KOLOC
e enduring and versatile voice of Bonnie Ko-
loc has been heard in Chicago since
. She
was a pivotal act at the Earl of Old Town for a
decade, and as her folk-oriented style merged
with jazz and blues, she began playing ven-
ues like Mr. Kelly’s. While remaining a xture
at the Earl, Orphans, and Holstein’s, she began
appearing at festivals. Along the way, Koloc re-
ceived a Governor’s Award in
and record-
ed albums, including two on the Epic label.
In
, she reached a new audience when she
starred in the Public
eater’s production of
e Human Comedy
, earning the eatre World
Bronze Award for Outstanding New Talent on
Broadway and a Drama Critics Award nomina-
tion for Best Actress in a Musical. Koloc began
sharing her passion for arts outside of perform-
ing—printmaking, painting, and ceramics—in
, and she has held one-woman exhibitions
in Chicago, Nashville, and other points in the
South and Midwest for more than a decade. She
was also featured in the
National Exhibi-
tion of the Los Angeles Printmaking Society.
In
Koloc merged her artistic talents with
a collection of linocuts, poetry, and music en-
titled
A Bestiary
, depicting farm animals in
each of the three media. e work won Best in
Show at the Iowa State Fair that year, and has
since entered the collections of the Iowa Arts
Council and Chicago Public Library.

lege of DuPage commissioned a one-woman
musical from Koloc in
; she wrote the mu-
sic for its songs with Howard Levy, as well as
the lyrics, and also designed the set and creat-
ed the costumes. She most recently created the
one-woman show
