HOWARD LEVY

Howard Levy is an acknowledged master of the

diatonic harmonica as well as a pianist, inno-

vative composer, recording artist, bandleader,

teacher, producer, and Evanston, IL, resident.

He is the rst person ever to play chromatical-

ly on the diatonic harmonica. Equally at home

in jazz, classical, rock, folk, Latin, and world

music, the two-time Grammy Award winner

is a favorite with audiences worldwide. He has

recorded with Kenny Loggins, Dolly Parton,

Paquito D’Rivera, Styx, Donald Fagen, Paul Si-

mon, and on hundreds of other CDs and movie

soundtracks. He is well known for his work with

la Fleck and

e Flecktones, with whom he

still tours. Levy’s current collaborators include

percussionist Glen Velez and cellist Eugene

Friesen as Trio Globo, guitarist Chris Siebold,

the Rembrandt Chamber Musicians, and the

Chicago Jazz Philharmonic, among others. At

Ravinia, he has performed Piazzolla’s

Five Tango

Sensations

and

Oblivion

with Musica Anima and

was music director for the “Bachanalia” program

commemorating the

th anniversary of Bach’s

death in

, performing two works with

harpsichordist Stephen Alltop. Levy composed

the rst true concerto for diatonic harmonica in

, later recording it with the Czech National

Symphony Orchestra. His
