Quartet quickly established itself as a leading

prizes at the Portsmouth, Bordeaux, and Buda-

pest International String Quartet Competitions

the ensemble

has also made many well-received recordings on

the Hyperion label, including piano quintets by

Brahms with Stephen Hough and by Shostakov-

ich, Schumann, and Franck with Marc-André

Hamelin; string quintets by Brahms and Dvořák

with violist Lawrence Power; Schubert’s string

quintet with Ralph Kirshbaum; and quartets

by Brahms, Britten, Haydn, Janáček, Smetana,

and Debussy. Forthcoming are an all-Dohnányi

disc with Hamelin as well as a tour and record-

ing of piano quintets by Elgar and Amy Beach

with Garrick Ohlsson.

e Takács Quartet has

been in residence at the University of Colora-

do–Boulder for over years, and the ensemble

also has educational residencies at the Aspen

Festival, Music Academy of the West, and Lon-

don’s Guildhall School of Music. As Associate

Artists of London’s Wigmore Hall, the quartet

holds an annual concert series at the venue. In

string quartet to be inducted into its Hall of

Fame. Tonight the Takács String Quartet returns

for its seventh season at Ravinia, where it rst
