9 Tips to Cater to Every Need

FOOD ALLERGIES

1}

Even if you weren’t told about someone’s allergy in

advance, you’ll no doubt want to accommodate the

guest. A dish of rice tossed with steamed vegetables

and herbs is easy to put together and is usually

a safe bet.

DIETERS

2}

Serve salads and entrees plain, with sauces and

dressings on the side so guests can help themselves.

Have low-calorie salad dressings available.

3}

Arrange plenty of nicely decorated fruit and vegetable

platters on buffet tables.

4}

Offer a selection of berries and yogurt for

dessert parfaits.

OBSERVANT JEWS AND MUSLIMS

5}

No pork, bacon, ham or shellfish. For the strictly

observant, any meat that isn’t strictly kosher will

not be eaten. For those less observant, avoid

mixing dairy products with meat other than fish.

CURMUDGEONS

6}

They don’t like or eat anything, and there’s nothing

to be done with them. Fortunately, their ranks

are shrinking.

FOOD COPS

7}

Stay on top of food news. If blueberries are the

miracle food of the day, put out a lavish display of

fresh berries. If broccoli is hot, offer broccoli

in some form.

VEGETARIANS

8}

Feature foods with shape and definition, such as

stuffed vegetables, to replace meat on the plate.

9}

Look for ethnic inspiration. Greek, Middle Eastern

or Italian cuisines have a wealth of delicious

vegetable dishes.
