A roundup of the latest, greatest trends in groom gear.

DOWN LOW

Most of the playful trends in men’s fashion have been

appearing in casual weddings. Overall there has been an

increase in the grey suit and the navy coat with chinos for

grooms and groomsmen. An easy way to add photo-friend-

ly (but hide-able!) flair to these laid-back looks is with

socks that showcase bold color, or one that matches your

wedding palette. Also consider a print, such as sports-

themed, stripes, polka dots, checker, paisley, birds, skulls or

mismatched “Odd Socks.”

For more obvious impact, consider fashion-forward kicks

like tasseled loafers, saddle shoes, boots or Sperry Top-Sid-

ers, or embellish classic oxfords with brightly hued laces

(neon is very in, or go with “something blue”). Consider the

sophisticated but edgy metallic trim on men’s oxfords, as

seen on the recent Chanel runway.

UP TOP

Instantly update any suit – or tuxedo! – with a pink, pow-

der blue, gray or khaki shirt. Plaid or delicate floral prints

also are on the uptick; but if you opt for a solid hue, go for

a patterned pocket square (“Mad Men” made these dapper

chest accessories popular) paired with a coordinating

skinny necktie or bow tie. A less-conventional way for a

modern groom to update a day or beach wedding look is to

sport an Ascot in a pop-y solid color that coordinates with

the wedding palette.

Alternatively, accent a more subdued necktie with a flashy

tie clip/bar. Ornate cuff links also are a simple way to

include a touch of personal pizzazz. Think everything from

precious gems and monograms to vintage buttons, carved

wood and more.

Yet another trending option is to forgo the traditional floral

boutonnière in favor of a unique pin on the lapel in various

styles with feathers, buttons, ribbon and cording. But feel

free to employ other meaningful, thematic or fun objects,

such as old keys, stones, paper, Scrabble pieces or even

Lego.
